Welcome to Paradise. From the time the first European explorers returned from the South Pacific with reports of a paradise on Earth, the islands of Polynesia have attracted travelers from all over the world. Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, the aristocratic French explorer who narrowly missed the honor of being the first European arrival to the area, dubbed the islands “New Cytheria”, after the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love. There were no shortage of followers that returned to civilization with stories of exotic temples, chieftains with magnificent fleets of outrigger canoes and the most beautiful women and intoxicating, erotic music and dancing ever seen. The allure was strong enough to attract famous writers like Herman Melville, Robert Louis Stevenson and Jack London, stage and screen productions like Mutiny on the Bounty and South Pacific as well as the famous artist, Paul Gauguin – who loved the islands so much that he lived out his life here, and painted some of his most famous works of art. For visitors today, the natural beauty of the islands is the major attraction. Since our first visit to French Polynesia in 1995, Bare Necessities has returned 4 times. We continue to maintain that the best way to explore the South Pacific in all of its natural beauty is by sea – au naturally, of course! Join us won’t you- as we return once again to Polynesia? The Star Flyer awaits to carry us in style from island to island while we laze on beaches, hike, climb mountains, take 4 wheel drive excursions, explore ancient sites, ride bicycles, snorkel and dive some of the most stunning underwater sights in the world… all with the friendliest people on earth: you!
