Oh the Places We'll Go. . .

One of the most unsung heroes at Bare Necessities Tour and Travel Company is its co-owner and co-founder, Tom Tiemann. Armed with wonderful marketing savvy, a sense for adventure and a gut load of courage, it was Tom’s vision, along with his pioneering spirit that brought the company from humble beginnings in 1990 to where it is today; the world’s premier nude and clothing optional travel company.

Having spent years practicing law, Tom is most frequently asked how he got into the business of nudist travel, particularly nudist cruises. It’s a question he often answers humbly; merely saying he was lucky – in the right place at the right time. However true that may be, it still takes an impetus of courage to open up and step through the door of opportunity when it presents itself, particularly when the stakes are high, the market is untested and the liability risks are so great.

A fearless pioneer in the nudist travel industry, Tom’s vision and business sense have paid off with rewards far greater than monetary ones. “The friendships I have made over the years, the sense of community I feel a part of, the places I have been able to travel to, these have truly been the biggest rewards of being in this business”. With wife and co-owner, Nancy, at his side, Tom admits it is difficult to believe that Bare Necessities will celebrate its 20th Anniversary in 2010. “It’s been an extraordinary ride, he says. “The time really has flown”.

Always open to new challenges and life experiences, Tom just returned from 3 weeks in Heidelberg, Germany where he lived with a local family and studied German at the University. In addition to travel and foreign language study, Tom enjoys photography, scuba diving, yoga and playing acoustical guitar.
